Specify Blue Ocean:

PPR Mono-Layer Pipes

For Private projects :
Blue Ocean Polypropylene Random Co-Polymer (PPR) in accordance with ISO/SANS 15874 Parts 2, 3 & 5.
Blue Ocean PPR pipes 160mm diameter and under for cold water (under 60 0 C) shall be PN12.5 (16-25mm) and PN10 (sizes 32mm and above).
Blue Ocean PPR pipes 16-160mm diameter for hot water (up to 90 0 C) shall be PN16.

For Public/Provincial/State projects :
Blue Ocean Polypropylene Random Co-Polymer (PPR), or similar approved, in accordance with ISO/SANS 15874 Parts 2, 3 & 5.
Blue Ocean PPR pipes 160mm diameter and under, for cold water (under 60°C) shall be PN12.5 (16-25mm) and PN10 (sizes 32mm and above).
Blue Ocean PPR pipes 16-160mm diameter for hot water (up to 90 0 C) shall be PN16.

SUPPLEMENTARY PREAMBLES:
Blue Ocean Polypropylene Random Co-Polymer (PPR) according to ISO/SANS 15874-2, 3 & 5.
All pipe diameters are nominal external.
PPR pipes 160mm diameter and under, for cold water (Under 60° C) shall be PN12.5 (16-25mm) and PN10 (32-160mm) pipes joined with socket fusion heat welded thermoplastic fittings as stated.
PPR pipes 160mm diameter and under, for hot water (up to 90°C) shall be seamless PN16 pipes joined with socket fusion heat welded thermoplastic fittings as stated.
When PN16 pipes is used in place of PN10/12.5 pipe then the internal diameter must be equal to or greater than the specified PN10/12.5 pipe as not to compromise flow quantity. The same applies to PN20 and PN25 PPR pipes.
16mm pipe is only intended for installations, not exceeding 3m, in the chase or as specified.
Fixing of pipes:
Pipes shall be firmly fixed to walls etc. with “Sikla” or "Hilti" type pipe clamps with provision made for thermal (lateral) expansion and joined and fixed strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
When pipes are installed across trusses then brandering or cable trays should be considered to ensure that the correct bracketing distances is maintained, unless otherwise specified.
When pipes are lagged (insulated) then the pipe clamp shall be placed over the lagging with the clamp's internal diameter (ID) about equal to the outer diameter (OD) of the lagging in the case of sliding points. This is to allow for lateral expansion. For fixed points the clamps shall be small enough to ensure no movement for the pipe.
If cold water pipes are installed in areas where air temperatures are expected to exceed 60°C, it should be bracketed as per a hot water installation as there may be lateral expansion.
Unless specifically otherwise stated, descriptions of pipes shall be deemed to include for fixing to walls etc. casting in, building in or suspending not exceeding 1m below suspension level.
